Frequently asked questions
A few things you might be wondering
Every home and every project is different. Here are answers to the questions I hear most often about working together, from the first conversation to the finished home.
01
Getting started
Enquiries, consultations and when to begin
Send me a message through the contact form with a few details about your home and what you would like to change. We start with a 10-minute discovery call to understand your project needs and budget. If it is a good fit on both sides, we schedule a consultation to discuss the full scope, timeline and needs of your project. From there, I prepare a proposal written specifically for your home.
As early as possible, ideally before you commit to a contractor or order anything. You do not need to wait until you have the keys or have moved in. We can start the planning beforehand.
Decisions about layout, plumbing, electrical points and lighting are far easier to get right on paper than to correct on site. If you have already started, I can still step in, and we begin by reviewing what has been decided so far.
Yes. Most of my clients are expats who have bought a home in Haarlem, Amsterdam or the surrounding area. I work in English and handle the communication with Dutch contractors and suppliers on your behalf.
I also help you understand what to expect locally, such as permits and the rules for protected buildings. I have built an extensive network of trusted suppliers, so you do not need to stress about where to find things or rely solely on IKEA.
No. You need to know how you want your home to feel and function, and I take it from there. I use your Pinterest and Instagram saves, your existing pieces and our conversations to translate your preferences into a design that reflects you.

Services and projects
What I design and how I can help
I work on residential projects for homeowners and renters. Most projects fall into one of three types:
- Full renovations. Kitchens, bathrooms or a whole home, where I manage everything from the design through to the contractors and installation.
- Custom furniture and cabinetry. Made-to-measure pieces such as built-in storage, wardrobes or kitchen cabinetry, designed to suit the style of your home. I take care of the full process, from the design to sourcing the right maker and overseeing the installation.
- Furnishing and styling. A refresh for one room or your whole home, with no construction work needed. I select and source new furniture, lighting and accessories, and coordinate the delivery and installation.
Not sure which one fits your home? We can work that out together on our discovery call.
My work is full service. I cover the complete scope of a project:
- Design: layouts, 3D visuals, materials and finishes
- Procurement: sourcing and ordering furniture, lighting and materials
- Contractors: finding and coordinating the right trades and third parties
- Implementation: managing the project through to installation
The exact scope is agreed per project, but the aim is always a finished home and not only a set of ideas.
Designer for a Day is a focused 2.5-hour session in your home, for when you need professional direction and a clear plan, but not a full project. We walk through your space together, I answer your design questions, and we agree on a direction.
Within 10 working days of the session, you receive a design packet that includes:
- Updated floor plans showing the recommended layout
- A colour plan for your walls and key surfaces
- Example furnishing selections, so you know what to look for
The session costs €1,500 excluding VAT, plus parking, and the design packet is included.
You work directly with me from the first conversation to the final installation. I am a French-American designer who grew up renovating homes alongside my father, with an artist for a mother, so I bring both a practical and a creative eye.
I do not sell set bundles. Every project is curated around your home, your priorities and how involved you want to be.
03
Fees and budgets
Design fees, project investment and payments
It depends on the size and complexity of your project and how much of it you would like me to manage. After our consultation meeting, I send a written proposal with a clear design fee, so you know the investment before you commit.
I want to be transparent from the start, which is why I do not quote a figure before I understand your home.
I look at three things: the scope of the work, its complexity, and the level of involvement you want from me. Your proposal sets out what is included, what is not, and what each phase costs. Changes outside the agreed scope are discussed and priced before any extra work begins.
Yes. Your total investment has separate parts:
- My design fee
- Furniture, lighting, materials and custom pieces
- Contractor or renovation costs
- Installation costs
We discuss your overall budget early, so the design is built around realistic expectations.
04
The design process
Planning, decisions, timelines and communication
Every project follows the same five phases, adapted to your scope:
- Discovery. I get to know your home, your routines, your priorities and your budget.
- Design. I develop the layouts, colour palette, electrical plans, 3D visuals, materials and finishes, and we refine them together.
- Procurement. I source and order the agreed furniture, lighting and materials, and gather contractor quotes.
- Implementation. I coordinate contractors, suppliers and deliveries, and keep the work aligned with the design and budget.
- Completion. Installation, styling and a final walkthrough of your finished home.
I know most clients would like a number here, in weeks or months. I want to be transparent: the honest answer depends on the scope, contractor availability and supplier lead times.
It also depends on you. How quickly decisions, approvals and payments are made has a direct effect on the schedule. Your proposal includes a timeline for your project, and I keep you updated if anything shifts.
You make the decisions that matter: the direction, the key selections and the budget. I manage the details in between. Expect to be most involved during Discovery and Design, when your input shapes everything that follows. Timely decisions at those stages keep the project on schedule.
05
Purchasing and renovation
Suppliers, furniture, contractors and implementation
Yes. I handle sourcing, ordering, tracking and delivery coordination for the items in your design, including kitchens. You approve every selection and its cost before anything is ordered.
Although I purchase on your behalf, you receive all invoices and warranties for those pieces. A procurement fee applies to items I purchase for you, and the details are set out in your service agreement.
Yes, that is possible, and some clients like to take care of certain pieces themselves. I want to be transparent about what that means. For anything you buy yourself, I am no longer responsible for that purchase, including the delivery, tracking, returns and any communication with the supplier.
From experience, this is where projects tend to slow down. An item is ordered in the wrong size or finish, or arrives later than planned, and the next stage of the work has to wait. When I handle the ordering, I check every detail against the design and keep each delivery in step with the project schedule.
Yes. Over the years, I have built a reliable network of contractors and suppliers I trust to get the work done well. They do not work for me, but I have relied on them on many projects and can vouch for the quality and reliability of their work.
If you already have contractors you would like to use, I am happy to work with them too. During the renovation, I coordinate between the trades, visit the site and make sure the work follows the design.
Each contractor has their own agreement with you and remains responsible for the quality of their own work.
06
Working together
Design style, collaboration and project fit
Yes. I do not apply one signature look to every home. My role is to translate your character and preferences into a design, through the textures, colours and pieces that suit you. Furniture and sentimental items you already own can be part of the plan.
This is very common. I listen to both of you, find where your preferences overlap, and propose a direction you can each recognise yourselves in. Having a third person guide those decisions usually makes them easier.
Collaborative and clear. You always know what stage we are in, what I need from you, and what happens next. I give honest recommendations, and I will tell you when I think a choice will not serve the result you want.
